Growth & Habitat: Perennial herb, grows 2-4 feet tall. Found in dry, open, semi-shaded areas, including roadsides. Prefers sandy, well-drained soils with moist conditions. Tolerates full sun to full shade. Self seeding required to come back for multiple years.
Blooming: Flowers from July to August, producing dense spikes of small, tubular blue to purple flowers.
Wildlife & Insects: Attracts butterflies and hummingbirds. Provides nectar and special value to native bees, bumble bees, and honey bees. Will be covered in bees all day every day when in bloom.
Fragrance: Both flowers and foliage are fragrant, with leaves emitting an anise scent when bruised.
Garden Use: Ornamental native mint with showy flowers and aromatic foliage. Suitable for pollinator gardens and naturalized areas.
